Representatives of the CIS ATC took part in the 43rd working group meeting on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers held in Moscow on April 8, 2026.

The event brought together delegations from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, CIS Executive Committee, SKPV Coordination Service, SCO Secretariat and Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The participants discussed the situation in Afghanistan and noted unfavorable trends in the socio-economic, humanitarian, and security fields.

While exchanging their views, the working group members stressed that international terrorist organizations continue to operate in the country posing an immediate threat to the security of the CIS member-states despite the efforts undertaken by the Afghan authorities to normalize the situation. Experts noted an increasing risk of terrorist acts and provocations in the border areas of the Commonwealth.

In conclusion, the participants expressed a common opinion on the need to join efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan and develop peace processes in the country.
