Sergey Zubkov, Deputy Head of the CIS ATC, took part in the work of the Coordination Meeting of representatives of the committees (commissions) on defence and security of the parliaments of the CSTO member-states under the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, held in Minsk, Republic of Belarus on October 15, 2026.

The event was attended by representatives of the parliaments and competent authorities of the CSTO member-states (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan), the CSTO Secretariat and the Joint Staff, and the CIS ATC.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on the current military and political situation in the Eastern European region of collective security and its likely evolution. They also discussed countering terrorism, extremism and irregular migration, combating illicit drug trafficking, and ensuring border and customs security.

Th CIS ATC’s representative delivered a report on countering terrorism and extremism, highlighting the principal factors giving rise to security threats across the Commonwealth.

Mr. Zubkov also noted that CIS and CSTO member-states share a common geopolitical space, making the development of cooperation between the two organizations a continuing priority for the CIS ATC’s international engagement.

As examples of this cooperation in practice, the CIS ATC Deputy Head cited the successful Commonwealth–Anti-Terror 2025 counter-terrorism exercise, held in the Republic of Tajikistan in conjunction with the CSTO’s Unbreakable Brotherhood exercise, and the CIS-SCO Counter-Terrorism Forum, held in the Republic of Belarus in 2026 with the active participation of representatives of the CSTO Secretariat and Joint Staff.

In closing, Sergey Zubkov expressed confidence that strengthening cooperation between the CIS and the CSTO and giving it greater practical substance would enhance the effectiveness of joint efforts to ensure collective security in the Eurasian region.
