A UN briefing on counter-terrorism and extremism initiatives was held on October 24, 2025 in Dushanbe on the margins of the Third CIS Conference on Countering Terrorism and Extremism.
The event was attended by representatives of the CIS member-states, the UN Office of Counter–Terrorism and Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, SCO RATS Executive Committee, as well as the CIS ATC delegation led by First Deputy Head Sabyrzhan Ungarbayev.
During the briefing, the participants were informed about onging UN projects, including the initiative to establish a Counter-Terrorism Early Warning Network for Central Asia. A new project on "Preventing and Countering Extremism – national and regional practices" funded by the Russian Federation and implemented by the UNOCT was also launched.
Quote from the statement of the Deputy Director of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department for New Challenges and Threats:
"Choosing a specialized conference of the Commonwealth as a platform for a launch full-scale presentation of the project is not accidental. The competent authorities of CIS member-states carry out a systematic work and build a close cooperation in preventing terrorist attacks and eliminate terrorist groups."
Mr. Ungarbayev shared the CIS ATC's experience in implementing preventive counter-terrorism measures, including work with youth and involving civil society institutions and academia.
